Are Cadac bbqs good?

It was back in about 2014 that I was on a camp site in Brean Sands the I saw my first Cadac bbqs.

A caravan sited next to me had two of them and they seemed to cook everything that eat over the five days that we were there on them.

Take our Caravan Cooking Quiz

They smell was immense, every time they fired it up.  I had to ask about it.  I went over to the family who were cooking on it and I said in my broadening West Midlands accent, “alright mate, are Cadac bbqs good then?

They all looked at each other with a kind of knowing smile.  “Mate, he said, they’re fantastic.

The evangelical owner then burst into what seemed like a well practiced pitch for their two cardiac bbqs.  One was an older version of the current safari and the other a carri.  “You seem to know your bbqs I said”

Turns out that the family owned a caravan centre and regularly demonstrated both cadacs on a regular basis.

Well…. I was sold.

So why’s are Cadac bbqs so good?

I got my first Cadac for my 40th Birthday, in fact its the same one that I still use today and Im 46 now!

The challenge has always been that each time I use the bbq on a caravan site, that someone should come over and say, ‘mmm, that smells nice” Just as I had done. all those years ago.

In this game I have about a 95% success rate.

In a nut shell… I like

  • The durability of the whole thing.  It always cleans up really well
  • The face that its Gas so there’s no messing about trying to get it started and maintaining heat.
  • The versatility of it.  You can cook almost anything.
  • My Cadac is the Safari.   This means out is best used on a table to avoid breaking your back whilst cooking.  The main advantage of the Safari is that all of the parts that get dirty, fit in the dishwasher when I get home.
  • The availability of Cadac spares and accessories

My (a Safari Chef) Cadac came with the following:

The Lid – This can be used as a lid, great for building up the heat quickly,

or

Turn the lid over and it becomes a Cadac stir fry Wok.  I love using it as a wok to make  stir fry.

A drip tray – This is the part that the Wok and all of the other accessories sit on.

A bbq rack – this is the part that you would expect to find on most other bbqs.

The hot plate – Great for frying everything from sausages, steaks, to omelettes and fried eggs

The griddle – Great if you are conscious of the fat and want to lift your steak up out of the fat and get those typical lines on your steak.

The base or the Cadac its self – I used the base only last weekend as a stove to cook some potatoes in a pan for mashing with some sausages I cooked just before.  Who wouldn’t like bangers and mash?

I also brought separately a Cadac Pizza stone.  When I first used it I was very disappointed, however, I now know how to make even a cheap supermarket pizza taste brilliant on the stone.  see my guide – how to cook pizza on a cadac.

Finally everything fits into a nice tidy bag that has also lasted the duration.

All in all, after seven years of ownership, chucking steaks on till flames light ups the side of my caravan, and occasionally leaving to out in the rain, I believe that Cadac  bbqs are good and worth the money.
